LASIK: Imagine The Possibilities

Imagine being able to wake up in the morning and see the alarm clock without putting in contact lenses. Imagine being able to play full contact basketball without glasses. Imagine being able to go skiing without getting your glasses all fogged up and in the way of your outer ski goggles. Imagine being able to order regular, non-prescription sunglasses again. Imagine being able to get a nice pair of Oakley sunglasses. With LASIK eye surgery these things are possible but you have to qualify as a candidate for LASIK surgery by undergoing a series of LASIK pre-operative tests.

Understanding Your LASIK Candidacy

There is perhaps nothing more important in the LASIK eye surgery process than determining your candidacy. If you are familiar with someone who has not had a good result, the problems typically stem from poor judgement of candidacy. The candidacy process begins with a thorough eye health evaluation to check the overall health of your eye as well as the corneal thickness.

NOTE: Age: 18+ is approved by the FDA

During your initial free LASIK screening, we will thoroughly examine your eyes and perform comprehensive testing to make sure that LASIK eye surgery is the right procedure for you. A medical and eye history will be taken and several tests will be performed, including:

  • Dry eye testing
  • Visual acuity and refractive error Screening
  • Visual Field Pupil size in low & medium light
  • Ocular pressure
  • General health of the eyes
  • Corneal topography & Corneal thickness

Am I A Good Candidate For LASIK?

People who want to minimize their dependence on glasses or contact lenses make good candidates for LASIK. Lifestyle, hobbies, and amount of correction needed are all factors that may determine whether you are a good candidate. The ideal candidate for LASIK is over 18 years of age, not pregnant, and free of any eye disease. You should experience stable vision for at least one year before having LASIK.

Basic LASIK candidacy requirements

  • Must not be pregnant with a baby
  • Must pass corneal thickness tests
  • Must be over 18 years of age
  • Must have a stable vision prescription
  • Must have a track record of healthy eyes
  • Must not have had a cornea transplant
  • Must not have keratoconus
  • Must not have severe dry eye syndrome

LASIK Cost

If affording LASIK is a reason you have been held back from getting the procedure you are not alone. What many people often say after having LASIK is that they wish they had done it sooner. We will do everything in our power to make LASIK affordable for you. We accept major credit cards and personal check. We are also pleased to offer the CareCredit card, the nation's leading patient payment program. With CareCredit you can finance 100% of your procedure and there are no upfront costs, no annual fees, and no pre-payment penalties. Please be sure to ask about LASIK financing at your pre-operative evaluation.

Interpreting LASIK prices in New England area can be challenging. Some people wish there was an app that could do this because its frustrating to just compare prices. LASIK prices can vary significantly, depending on many factors including the type of procedure you choose, (traditional V. wavefront) the instruments used (conventional LASIK, using a microkeratome to create the corneal flap, vs. all-laser LASIK) and the experience and location of your LASIK eye surgeon.
At Eye Health Vision Centers we make understanding the price of LASIK simple.

The Greater New Bedford Surgical and Laser Center

The Greater New Bedford Surgical and Laser Center was opened in 1986 with the express purpose of rendering high quality, state of the art eye surgery to patients of all ages, especially those with cataracts, glaucoma, or cornea disease. The Center is designed specifically with the needs of the patient in mind. The entire process from initial examination to final outcome is conducted in a pleasant comfortable environment.

After a patient decides to have surgery, he or she is assigned his or her own Surgical Counselor who is available to answer questions and provide assistance. These individuals are specially trained to assist the patient throughout the entire surgical experience, including follow up care for as long as necessary. Patients are encouraged to contact their counselor for any questions, no matter how simple or complex.
