Blepharoplasty Surgery
Is blepharoplasty surgery painful?
There is usually no pain during the actual procedure.
Most patients experience mild discomfort after surgery,
but there is rarely severe or extended pain.
Will I have black and blue eyes
after surgery?
Bruising following surgery is normal and lasts about 2-3
days. However, you can greatly minimize the appearance of
bruises by applying ice packs after surgery.
Will my insurance pay for the
procedure?
If your field of vision is impaired due to drooping eyelids,
insurance usually covers the procedure. However, purely
cosmetic surgery is rarely covered. Check with your insurance
carrier to find out about their policies.
How much will blepharoplasty
cost?
The total cost of blepharoplasty will depend on whether
general anesthesia is used, the extent of your particular
surgical needs, and which type of surgical facility is appropriate
for your procedure. During your consultation, ask your surgeon
for a cost estimate.
For how long will I be out of
work?
Most patients can return to work between 3 and 7 days after
surgery, although some minimal bruising may be visible for
two to three weeks.
How soon after surgery can I
exercise?
It is safe to exercise between 5 and 7 days following surgery.
When can I put my contact lenses
back in?
Most patients can put contact lenses in place about 7 to
10 days following surgery.
How soon after surgery can I
apply eye makeup?
After the blepharoplasty procedure, patients should wait
7 to 10 days before applying eye makeup.
A Cautionary Note:
Any surgery carries some degree of risk. However, when eyelid
surgery is performed by an experienced, board-certified
surgeon, complications are uncommon and usually minor.
Risks may include:
- double or blurred vision for a day or two
- temporary bleeding from the eyelids
- temporary difficulty closing eyes during sleep
- additional plastic surgery
