July 8, 2002… Stephen F. Sullivan, MD announced today that Ms. Rena L. J. Jacobson has joined the 29-doctor professional staff at Eye Health Vision Centers at its Route 6, Dartmouth location. As Director of Audiology, Ms. Jacobson will oversee all aspects of The Hearing Center at Eye Health Vision Centers.

Ms. Jacobson graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communication Disorders and received her Masters Degree in Audiology from the University of Massachusetts in 1994. In her most recent professional experience with a Fall River based ENT Specialist, Rena provided personalized hearing healthcare for hundreds of patients.  She has dozens of notes of gratitude from satisfied persons with hearing loss who sought a solution through the use of quality hearing instruments. 

Ms. Jacobson and her Audiology Staff at The Hearing Center will provide comprehensive audiometry testing and hearing aid fitting and dispensing.The Hearing Center provides FREE Hearing Tests to all patients, which include:

• Case History -- Does the patient have any medical conditions that might be affecting hearing?

• Subjective Questionnaire -- How much of a problem is hearing loss for the patient, and is the patient ready to get help if needed?

• Videootoscopy -- Examination of ear canals with a visual picture shown on a TV screen. Is there wax blockage or some other medically treatable condition that may be affecting hearing?

• Pure Tone Audiometric Screening -- General determination of degree of hearing loss as compared to normal hearing. The patient takes home a copy for personal records.

• Appropriate referrals for follow-up -- Does the patient need to see a doctor? Does the patient need a complete audiological evaluation, with a possible recommendation for hearing aid use? Should the patient return for annual rechecks (hearing within normal or near-normal range)?

Ms. Jacobson is a gifted Audiologist and will provide the finest care possible in the community for hearing impaired patients. She is widely known for her skills throughout Greater Fall River and we are pleased she will now also be servicing the Audiological patient needs of the population of greater Dartmouth and New Bedford areas.
