LETTER
FROM
DR. STEPHEN SULLIVAN
I have been wearing glasses since I was 14 years
old. Like most nearsighted people I have been a slave
to optical devices ever since. I was never able
to tolerate contact lenses very well because of "dry
eyes", and would only wear my contacts for sports.
Consequently whenever I went on vacation, I had to
carry not only my regular glasses, but my sunglasses,
my contact lenses and my contact lens solutions. For
aquatic activities like scuba diving, snorkeling,
and swimming there was no optical solution -Until
now!
I have been following the evolution of laser vision
correction for the past eight years. Each year I have
become more and more impressed with its safety and predictability.
Finally this January I had LASIK
surgery performed by our laser vision correction
specialist Dr. Ken Kenyon. It made sense to have it
performed by one of the most experienced LASIK surgeons
in the world.
The
entire experience was unbelievable. I arrived at 7:30
a.m., had my laser surgery at 8:00 a.m. and was working
by 8:30 a.m.! Yes. Working! I immediately started detailed
planning for our own laser facility here in Dartmouth
without glasses!
After spending the entire morning analyzing the Boston
laser facility, I returned home to Dartmouth where I
continued to work the afternoon analyzing the data collected
and finalizing the plans for our own laser facility.
I was so excited and involved that I totally forgot
that I had just had the procedure performed that morning.
That night, I went to the movies. There was a gentle
rain falling as I walked from my car to the theater.
I suddenly realized as I walked that I was feeling rain
on my eyes for the very first time since I was 14 years
old. It was like walking "naked": no glasses,
no contacts, just rain against my eyes and no annoying
fog or steamed lenses, just rain against my eyes and
I could see! Such a simple sensation, but such a strong
emotion. It was so delightful that I actually kept walking
in the rain in order to prolong this pleasant sensation.
Eye Health Vision Center has now opened
it's own laser vision correction center right
here in Dartmouth.
We no longer have to inconvenience our patients from
Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island to travel
to Boston for their LASIK surgery. Everything is done
right here in Dartmouth: seminar, pre-op analysis, laser
surgery, and post-op follow-up. |
