Space Needs
If LASIK patients can use common waiting areas
and examination rooms, the space required to
graft a laser vision correction component to
an existing comprehensive ophthalmology practice
can be relatively modest.
The refractive surgery coordinator has several unique
space needs. First, she needs approximately lOO
square feet of space for storing support materials,
postoperative kits, information packs, and a variety
of seminar- related items. In addition, refractive
patients often need to discuss financing. An enclosed
space for the coordinator is essential to give
patients privacy especially for discussing money
matters. In our location, 200 square feet suffice
for both the refractive surgery coordinator's
office and an adjacent room for counseling.
The laser procedure room itself is not large-approximately
350 square feet. Finally, if the practice does
not have a corneal topography unit, about 50 square
feet will be needed for this necessary addition.
A small waiting area adjacent to the laser room
is a useful convenience. All told, the dedicated
laser space required is on the order of 650 square
feet.
Finally, the main patient waiting room is available
for the free evening seminars that we offer monthly
at all of our practice locations. |
