Dr. Sousa has a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Mathematics from Queens University of Charlotte in Charlotte, NC. She earned her doctoral degree from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, PA. During her time at PCO she was accepted into an advanced studies program, where her knowledge and training in ocular surface conditions excelled. Through the program she was awarded an Advanced Studies Certificate in Anterior Segment Conditions. Dr. Sousa has trained in several states including Texas, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. She has given a lecture to local practicing optometrists on a yearly review from 2011-2012 on Neuro-Ophthalmology Clinical Updates while training in North Carolina. Throughout her training she has worked with several retinal specialists, neurologists, and general ophthalmologists. She is focused on providing comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages. She has a profound interest in Primary Care Optometry, Ocular Disease, and Optometric Technology. She is a member of both the Massachusetts Society of Optometry and American Optometric Association.

The Greater New Bedford Surgical and Laser Center was opened in 1986 with the express purpose of rendering high quality, state of the art eye surgery to patients of all ages, especially those with cataracts, glaucoma, or cornea disease. The Center is designed specifically with the needs of the patient in mind. The entire process from initial examination to final outcome is conducted in a pleasant comfortable environment.
After a patient decides to have surgery, he or she is assigned his or her own Surgical Counselor who is available to answer questions and provide assistance. These individuals are specially trained to assist the patient throughout the entire surgical experience, including follow up care for as long as necessary. Patients are encouraged to contact their counselor for any questions, no matter how simple or complex.
